The Next Picasso?

My daycare had its annual art show the other day. I had so much fun painting! Here's some pictures that mommy took.

January

January is over! Woo woo! Aside from maybe Cora's first month, this was definitely the hardest. Cora suffered from 8 days of the stomach flu, followed promptly by days and days of teething pain. And it's still not over yet! Her bottom two have poked their way out, but they're still causing a lot of drool, a face rash, and pain at night. Poor thing! And poor mommy and daddy ;) After travelling for the holidays, the crib breaking, the stomach flu, and teething, our "sleep situation" was out of control. The "experts" suggest that you attempt sleep training when you are well rested and can afford some sleep loss. Well, Matt and I were desperate - we were sick on and off all month and that combined with crazy work schedules left us frazzled with Cora's incessant waking up. SO, we did it. We sleep trained her. I never thought we'd have to do it. But, we did. And guess what, it wasn't so bad! Cora is smarter than she is stubborn (or at least that's what I tell myself). We started on a Friday night and by Tuesday, the changes were dramatic. We used Ferber as our guideline but modified at to a level my heart could handle :) We'd let her cry 5-8 minutes, go in and rub her back until she calmed down, and then repeat. The most we had to do was three rounds, and by now she's putting herself back to sleep! Well, except that she's been eating her face off lately and waking up for a snack or two, but I can handle that. She's also napping better at daycare and waking up on her own in the mornings (I used to have to wake her up). Hopefully this sticks!

In about the only fun news of the month, we went to the Baltimore Acquarium last weekend - Cora loved it!

In house news...we bought a new ceiling fan for our bedroom last summer, and it's been sitting on our floor since then. Hey - we have a baby! The one currently in operation died a few weeks ago, so Matt decided to finally ;) tackle the project. Well, no sooner did we have the old fan down, then we realized the hole is not big enough for the new one. We're kind of at a standstill. It might be time to hire someone...
